The future of social media marketing

Facebook isn’t attracting users like it used to. Instagram has been the fastest-growing social network in recent years. Why should you be on it, and how can you gain followers?

There are 4.2 million Facebook users and approximately 400,000 Instagram users in the Czech Republic. However, according to the research firm Forrester, Instagram users are 58 times more active than Facebook users and 120 times more active than Twitter users.

Instagram is the fastest-growing social network of recent years. According to research by the British agency Locowise, in May 2015 the average organic growth in Instagram followers reached 1.48%; on Facebook, it was just 0.2%. According to Josef Šlerka, Instagram has roughly 53% men and 44% women, and only 2% businesses. Can you see the potential?

Why use Instagram?

If you want to get closer to your customers and be a modern, fresh brand
. Or if you need to find new customers without breaking the bank, then Instagram is the right marketing tool for you. The sooner you start using this tool, the greater your chances of success! It will become increasingly difficult to make your mark.

Nowadays, a company’s presence on social media is a necessity. Most companies are on Facebook. But this presence is also a weakness, as most users are overwhelmed by advertising posts. People want
to have fun
on social media. And that’s precisely why many users are switching to Instagram, a social network based on sharing, commenting on and liking photos.

The benefits of Instagram

  • You’ll bring your products closer to your customers – unlike Facebook, Instagram doesn’t currently filter any posts. And your post will reach 100% of your followers.
  • You’ll get direct feedback – let your followers rate your products and write (constructive) reviews. Every suggestion from a customer is valuable.
  • Customers can create their own content – simplicity is key. Users simply pick up their mobile phone, focus, take a photo and upload it directly to Instagram in a matter of seconds. Thanks to this simplicity, they can capture the power of the moment.
  • Visual content – text is a thing of the past. The future lies in visual communication. It’s easier for people to remember, which increases the chance that customers will remember and buy your product.
  • A head start over the competition – your competitors aren’t on Instagram. Or at least not to the same extent as on Facebook. Everyone’s on Facebook these days.
  • Better targeting – thanks to hashtags, you can reach the target audience you want

4 tips on how a brand can succeed on Instagram

1. A personalised approach

You must compensate for the lack of advertising formats with a personal approach to every member of the community. This could involve promoting their own content, or providing feedback in the form of a comment or a ‘like’.

2. Content and its frequency

Before you post a photo, ask yourself if you’d ‘like’ it yourself. It might sound like a cliché, but you’re up against visually stunning content and need to grab users’ attention within two seconds as they scroll through their feed. Although Instagram started out as a mobile app, that doesn’t mean you have to post authentic photos and videos taken on your mobile. On the contrary. We’ve found that images taken with high-quality cameras interest people significantly more.

3. Support from other channels

Use newsletters, Facebook ads and your website for promotion, and don’t forget offline channels either. The presence of hashtags at events helps users to subsequently include them in their own posts.

4. Analytics and reporting

The rule on social media is: measure twice, share once. Of the available tools, we use Iconosquare, which tracks all key metrics and supplements them with optimisation tips.
