Instagram and Pinterest have new advertising buttons

Last week, Instagram and Pinterest introduced new advertising buttons. We know how they work and when they’ll be available here too!

New Instagram ad formats

Last week, Instagram unveiled new full-featured advertising formats. It will now be possible to add buttons to every image for signing up on the website ( Sign Up, Learn Mor
e), making a purchase (Shop Now
) and downloading the app (Install Now
).

Instagram Ads will be tested by marketers in Spain until the end of June. Instagram plans to make all formats available for purchase worldwide by the end of the year, including in the Czech Republic.

Instagram also plans to capitalise on its integration with Facebook and the data that people entrust to Facebook. By the end of the year, it will be possible to target adverts in a similar way to how you are used to on Facebook, based on socio-demographic criteria. Any company can use Instagram adverts; the only important thing is to offer sufficiently visually appealing and high-quality content.

Interesting facts about Instagram

Instagram is the largest visual social network in the world. It claims to have over 300 million followers worldwide. In the Czech Republic, the figure is lower, with current estimates putting the number of Czech and Slovak users at over 116,000. The social network allows users to share images and videos.

  • 41% of users are aged 16–24
  • 51% of users are men
  • Almost half of users use Instagram daily (49%)
  • Photos receive 36% more likes than videos
  • Every day, users around the world upload 70 million new photos, which receive 8,500 likes every second

Buy me on Pinterest

The second-largest ‘visual’ network, Pinterest, is also preparing a new feature. Within a few weeks, it will launch a trial of the ‘Buy It’ button in the US

The button can be added to so-called Rich Pins – i.e. ‘pins’ that contain additional information (such as a link to a website or online shop, price, availability, etc.)  If you meet this requirement, you can get the button very easily. All you need to do is add a few lines of code. If you currently use Shopify or Demandware, you can request the button via these platforms.

Pinterest will, at least initially, carefully select and allocate the buttons. You can also apply for them here. For now, this is only available within the United States. You’ll be able to get the button for free and pay by card directly through the app. However, Pinterest will only act as an intermediary for the purchase and won’t charge a commission for this service. That said, the logistics and administration associated with the order will remain entirely in the hands of the online shop.

Interesting facts about Pinterest
Pinterest is essentially a virtual pinboard. It allows you to pin an interesting image, a link to an article, a video or any other content directly from websites.

  • 56% of users are women
  • 65% of users are aged 16–34
  • A quarter of users use Pinterest at least once a week, and another quarter use it daily
  • Most pins link to blogs (54%)
  • 75% of visits come from mobile devices
