Email campaigns vs. newsletters

In May, we attended a networking event on the topic of email campaigns versus newsletters in e-commerce. What did the evening bring, and is email still alive and kicking?

The event organised by La Degustation Online features three ten-minute presentations, followed by a panel discussion and networking combined with a gourmet experience. These themed discussion evenings tackle sensitive topics in the field of digital communication and new media and are organised by Asociace.BIZ.

The ten-minute presentations were delivered by Michal Hanáček from Pilulka CZ/SK, Karel Duchek, who has been involved in numerous advertising campaigns, and Matej Kováčik, who currently works at Actumas an email marketing consultant. Right at the start, we had the chance to grab a drink using a web app from the Wunderman agency. The app accessed our data via Facebook, and off we went to the bar for a drink.

Who spoke at the email marketing networking event?

Repetition is the mother of wisdom, so in the first presentation we reviewed the types of emails and what we need to know about our customers. We also discussed whether and why personalisation is beneficial, and how automated campaigns are performing. Finally, Seznam.cz was mentioned, along with this year’s new feature: sorting emails into a ‘bulk’ folder.

Karel Duchek, on the other hand, spoke to us about emails from a spam perspective and shared facts such as the fact that he received 27 emails from 3 online shops in one week, and that only 5 out of the 27 emails had the word “discount” in the subject line.  In the final presentation, we were guided through automated campaigns; once again, it was emphasised that emails should be personalised and tested using A/B testing.

Long live email!

After each presentation, there was time for questions, followed by a panel discussion in which the speakers discussed issues related to the topic. The discussion was also attended by Pavel Kropáček from the law firm Kropáček LEGAL, who, among other things, runs the website PrávoProPodnikatele.cz. Towards the end of the discussion, the question arose as to where the future of email marketing lies. The panellists agreed that email marketing has great potential and that emails have not yet had their final say.
